TRAILFACTOR ULTRA & HALF MARATHON RETURN IN 2013
5-Mile Race Added to Day’s Events
PORTLAND, OR – January 2, 2013 – The second annual TrailFactor 50K and Half Marathon trail races are returning to Forest Park on Memorial Day 2013.
All the awesome details:
The 50K is the only ultra in the Portland area and is run entirely on trails in Forest Park, including several of the lesser traveled trails deep in the park. The Half Marathon course is improved for 2013 to feature more trails. And new this year is the addition of a 5-mile race. The races start and finish in Lower Macleay Park.
Registration for all three races is now open. The races support the Forest Park Conservancy. Last year TrailFactor donated $2,500 to the Conservancy.
The event embodies the ultrarunning community spirit and has a casual atmosphere and includes a post-race BBQ, with beer from race sponsor Lucky Lab.
Live results for all racers will be available on www.NSPiRElive.com.
Volunteering at the TrailFactor race is a great way for those not ready to run a 50K but who are interested in ultrarunning to learn about the sport.
“We’re excited about the addition of the 5-mile course to the 2013 race,” stated race co-director Renee Seker. “And Forest Park is a beautiful place that TrailFactor runs in every week, so it’s fantastic to put on a race there that benefits the park.
What makes this race special?
Forest Park. It’s a real treasure for trail runners and an opportunity to run a race on its trails shouldn’t be missed. The race routes will include everyone’s favorite – Wildwood Trail – but also some lesser traveled and less well-known paths.
Community. The Portland trail running club, TrailFactor, is hosting this event so its a great chance to hang out friends, run, and volunteer together. In addition to the race, there are trail maintenance opportunities and of course we’ll have a few social events too.
Social. This race is sponsored in part by nspirelive, so your results can be shared immediately as you finish. You can sign up to have text and email alerts automatically sent, and updates to your Facebook page and Twitter account.
Speaking of social, be sure to visit our Facebook page and check out this Event. There’ll you’ll find updates and information on the social opportunities.
The race will support the Forest Park Conservancy
The Portland Trail Series is a super-cool, low-key series of trail races that will be held in beautiful Forest Park. A total of five races will be held every other Wednesday evening from August through October, and each race will cover a different, challenging course, ranging from 5-8 miles.
The Portland Trail Series is being held in conjunction with the Forest Park Conservancy’s All Trails Challenge trail-a-thon. Runners will be automatically entered in the All Trails Challenge and a significant portion of registration fees will be donated to the Forest Park Conservancy as our sponsorship of your participation! So, not only will you be able to challenge yourself and some of Portland’s best trail runners in this fun event, your participation will support the park we all love!
The Columbia River Orienteering Club (CROC) is putting on a 6-hour
orienteering event on Saturday May 14 in Central Oregon. This event
is ideal for adventure racers and endurance runners.
- You need to be on a team of 2 to 5 people.
- The terrain is fairly steep but open (minimal trees) and ideal for
1st time orienteers.
- It’s on the Big Muddy Ranch, formerly known as Rajneeshpuram home of
the Bagwan himself.
- The closest “town” is Antelope Oregon; it’s about a 3 hours one way
drive from Portland.
- Event cost is $25 per person.
Complete event details are on the CROC website, www.croc.org

I did the 24-hour version of this event several years ago – my first
24-hour anything. It was a lot of fun. Can’t beat this experience,
especially for this price.
Just a heads up, here is a link to the schedule for the 2011 La Sportiva / USATF-Oregon Mountain Running Series, which includes the Mt. Ashland Hill Climb mentioned a few days back.
Janelle posted this to the list last week, and it is worth repeating!
For those who can take the heat, there is the ultra version of the FP ATC the weekend of May 21st.
What: ATC in 3 days (80+ miles of trail)
When: May 20-22
Why: To raise money for Forest Park and have fun
Where: Course details to follow
How to participate in the challenge or support Forest Park:
When you register on the website, you will have a personal website for fundraising and can email potential sponsors. Funds raised will help maintain and protect the Forest Park.
I ran it last year, and it was probably my favorite event of the year. Amazing course, fun town (Shakespeare Festival!), post race beers from atop a mountain… And registration is just $15. Sign up early, as it will surely fill up.
